About
Notes from the parts of software that change underneath you.
volatile is an independent engineering publication written by Fabio Noga. Software engineer writing about systems, compilers, security and the small tools that make the rest bearable.
The name comes from Java, where volatile marks a field that another thread may change at any moment, so every read has to see the latest value. Most interesting bugs live somewhere near that keyword.
About me
I'm Fabio "Noga" Nogueira, a software engineer who can't stop building things outside of work. Some of it is useful, like a home security system on a Raspberry Pi. A lot of it is games or stuff that I find interesting (did you know that I decompiled an MMO?).
I built a browser Pokémon game for my final high school project, then rebuilt it from nothing twelve years later, still without a game engine. I keep turning up at game jams too, most recently with Bubble TD.
I also talked about this stuff, whether that's time and space complexity at a meetup in Porto or how far prompting alone can take a project.
